SRFF is working towards a future without impediments to practices that improve and nurture the cybersecurity, resilience and sustainability of the software, services and smart, connected devices that power our modern economy. SRFF will engage in advocacy efforts to influence policies, legislation, and regulations that impact the field of information security. That advocacy will include:

  • Promoting laws and policies for secure product design and transparency about cyber risk and software quality
  • Demanding accountability from manufacturers and software producers with regard to cybersecurity and software resilience
  • Pushing to enact policies that support the rights of device owners to service, maintain, repair, modify and tinker with their property
  • Advocating for a more secure, resilient and consumer-friendly marketplace for hardware, software and services that is characterized by transparency about cybersecurity and product sustainability, and by robust competition and market choices for software, hardware and services
  • Fighting misinformation – cyber risks are often misconstrued to achieve other ends – whether that is stifling pro-consumer laws or derailing efforts to improve the cybersecurity of software and services. SRFF will actively fight such misinformation, providing expert and factually accurate information to policymakers about the sources of- and solutions to cyber risk.
  • Building community: SRFF will promote community building, engagement and activism by organizing events and initiatives that give hackers, tinkerers and cybersecurity pros an opportunity to meet each other, share ideas and engage with thought leaders and experts from different arenas.
  • Promoting innovation: SRFF will support research initiatives that drive innovation in information security and cyber resilience, contributing to the advancement of the field.
